The Oslo Interactive English Corpus Header

The OIE Corpus Header gives you information about the text from which the corpus search result line has been taken. At the end of every line in the search results there is a clickable red code in brackets, e.g. [popf]. The following list gives you the codes and what they stand for:

  • film -- fictional films
  • lay -- lay non-fiction
  • litf -- literary fiction
  • midf -- middle fiction
  • popf -- popular fiction
  • popn -- popular non-fiction
  • tech -- technical non-fiction
  • speech -- political speeches

The codes give you an immediate idea of what kind of text you are dealing with. However, if you click on the code, you will be taken to the OIE Corpus header page which gives you further information about the text in question. The Header looks like this:

Not only will you gain more knowledge about what kind of text the concordance is taken from, but you will also get information about when and where it was published. The following region codes can be found in the corpus:

  • AUS -- Australia
  • CAN -- Canada
  • CAR -- Caribbean
  • IND -- Indian Subcontinent
  • IRE -- Republic of Ireland
  • SAF -- South Africa
  • UK -- United Kingdom
  • US -- United States
  • WAF -- West Africa
  • OTH -- Other
