The replies given by the subjects were noted verbatim and put to content analysis. Twenty-two categories were framed which were indicative of the constituents considered vital to a good and happy life. Ø were: food, cloth, house, money, education, wife and children, happy family relations, happy social relations, health, social welfare, national service, transport and communication, prestige and status, recreation, employment, agriculture, business, efficiency, freedom from worries, luxuries, values, arts and music. After analysing into Ø specific categories, each protocol was also considered as a whole and was classified on the basis of bipolar categories. Ø, it was determined whether the needs that were expressed were specific or undefined. Ø, each protocol was judged in terms of whether the Ø indicated were realistic or unrealistic. In the coding of the responses, high intercoder reliability was obtained throughout on a sample of protocols coded independently. An intercoder agreement of more than 80 per cent was observed. During the process of coding, periodic check on reliability was maintained Ø Ø at no time, the Ø between the two independent coders was less than 80 per cent.
