Task (4): What kind of conjunct is though, i.e. what kind of relationship between two units of discourse does it signal?



Suggested answer:

(1) The first line in which though has not been used as a conjunct is:
Though 1,800 people were involved in the redundancies it was...

(2) The function of though in the above example is that of subordinating conjunction

(3) Though as a linking adverbial is typically found in final or mid-position.

Example of though in final position:
The ham was very good though.

Example of though in mid-position:
The win, though, has put us right back in it.

(4) Though as a conjunct typically signals contrast.
