Introduction:

The exercises below focus on the uses and characteristics of the word classes noun and verb. Both nouns and verbs typically carry lexical content and their interaction is crucial for the syntax and meaning of a text. Their interaction is particularly apparent in Subject-Verb concord and collocations. These are topics that will be taken up in the exercises. Both nouns and verbs follow certain inflectional and derivational patterns and some of the exercises concentrate on problems related to the form of both nouns and verbs.

Aims:

The exercises aim to make you familiar with some of the potential problems related to the use of nouns and verbs in English. By doing the exercises, you should be better equipped to use nouns and verbs according to the grammatical rules for standard English.
